Removal and Installation

1. Preparation
WARNING
Injury Hazard: Before you
operate the turning gear,
make sure that no
personnel are near the
flywheel, or in the engine.
1) Read the data in 0012 − 1 , General
Guidelines for Lifting Tools.
2) Make sure that all tools and equipment
are clean.
3) Stop the engine. Refer to the procedure
in the Operation Manual 4002 − 2.
4) Let the engine temperature become cold
before you start the removal procedure.
5) Remove the cylinder cover, refer to the
procedure in 2708 − 1 .
6) Operate the turning gear to move the
applicable crank to BDC.
7) Look at the area of the piston ring stroke.
If there is unwanted material, do the
procedure given in 2124 − 3 .
8) Use carefully a plastic hammer and a
screwdriver to remove the antipolishing
ring (1, Fig. 1 ).
9) Attach the platform elements (94143,
94144), refer to 3301 − 1 .
10) Attach the device (94350) to the platform
as shown with the eight bolts (not
shown).
2. Removal
1) Remove the four nuts (2, Fig. 2 ) from the
piston rod foot (3).
2) Remove the four screws and locking
plates (1) that hold the gland box (4) to
the cylinder block. For more data, refer
to 2303 − 1 .
