e. Steam whistle and chimney
First of all fit the steam whistle in the hole opposite the
steam pipe. Tie up only with the spanner provided with
the boat. Do not tighten by turning the lever as this will
be damaged. When you screw in the steam whistle, the
lever with the chain should point outwards (use seals if
necessary) so that the chain operating the whistle does
not come in contact with the boiler. Pull the chain
gently to operate the
whistle.
Note:
The steam
whistle can be used to
check any overpressu-
re in the boiler or before oiling to check whether
the boiler is still under
pressure. Then fit the
chimney on the chim-
ney pipe. Please watch
that the exhaust steam
pipe integrated in the
chimney is in direction
of the condenser (see
point f). The exhaust
steam pipe from the cylinder is leading also in the con-
denser.
f. Installation of the condensate tank
Raise slightly and carefully the exhaust steam pipe co-
ming from the cylinder, place the condensate tank in the
sinking planned for it in the
wooden board and put the ex-
haust steam pipe in one of both
holes which are in the coved of
the condensate tank. Put the ex-
haust steam pipe leading to the
chimney in the other hole of the
condenser.
g. Mast and rigging
Put the flagpole in the guide planned for it and turn it so
that the flag shows backwards.
h. Mounting of the mast
Fix the mast cords according to
the picture to one of the eye-
lets, pull it through the hole underneath the flag and fix
it on the corresponding eyelet on the other side of the
mast. Repeat this procedure with the second mast cord.
i. Roof and flags
Place the roof in the holes planned for it in in the rear.
Please watch that the bent roof girders have to be pla-
ced in the rear holes. Two holes, one in the bow and
one in the rear of the ship, are for both flags.
11. Initial operation
To oil the cylinder:
There must not be any steam pressure in the boiler.
Check it by operating the steam whistle. Only then
turn off the oil filler screw and fill WILESCO
Steam Engine Oil (item nr. Z 83) while turning the
flywheel several times so that the oil is drawn in.
Oil again when you refill fuel tablets so that the
piston does not seize (2-3 drops oil are enough for
approx. 10 mn running time). Oil lightly all of the
bearings, linkages and the shaft. Before refilling
the boiler with water, check by operating the
steam whistle if no steam pressure is in the boiler.
Unscrew the spring loaded valve and fill the boiler
with the funnel approx. to the 3/4 (upper water gau-
ge), if possible with warm water. The funnel should
raise slightly so that the air can escape from the boi-
ler. Use only deficient in lime water or, better, water
without any lime e.g. distilled water.
Place two layers of dry fuel tablets in the burner slide
(the lower tablets flat and the upper tablets on their sides, no more than
3 pcs.). Then light the tablets. Use only the original WILESCO burner
slide.
Caution: Because of the risk of danger from an open flame,
always take the necessary safety precautions.
The burner slide is adjustable. The oxygen supply and the flame height
can be adjusted by moving the burner slide in relation to the air holes. Before ad-
ding new dry fuel tablets, always check the water level and refill the boiler with wa-
ter to ensure that the boiler does not run dry. The ratio of fuel tablets to the quantity
of water in the boiler is designed so that the boiler cannot run dry without any ad-
ded fuel tablets.
Important:
After the heating process, remove the burner slide
from the guide whilst it is still warm,
otherwise unburnt fuel may cause the slide
to stick. If the slide becomes stuck, it can be removed by tilting it slightly to the left
and right.
To prevent unpleasant smells, the fuel tablets should be completely burnt out - they
should not be blown out. If there is not enough water in the boiler, place the burner
slide on a metal plate until the tablets have burned out completely.
Danger if the boiler is heated without enough water!
Always ensure that the Steam Engine has enough water in the boiler while running.
It is recommended to refill water when adding new dry fuel tablets.
The water
must be visible always at least at the lower water gauge
, otherwise the joints be-
come leaking and the boiler will be destructed. Any following claim, damage or
consequential damage cannot be accepted. If a leak occurs in the boiler or any other
part where water or steam escape,
stop the Steam Engine immediately
(remove
the burner tray and operate the steam whistle).
Any necessary repair has to be car-
ried out only by authorized trained staff or at WILESCO.
12. RC steering
There is a small room in the rear area of the ship for the RC steering. After having
removed both pins, you can pull the wooden board forwards. You can mount in this
area a standard RC steering which can steer the rudder.
13. After the use of the Steam Engine and its cooling, the Engine should be servi-
ced. Pour out any water left in the boiler. For this, unscrew the spring loaded valve
and take off all of the loose parts before tipping over the model.
Be
very careful if the water is still hot!
Any water left in the boiler can-
not do any damage, but might leave sediment on the water gauge. Any
lime formation on the water gauge or in the boiler have not to be
remo-
ved in any case using vinegar or corrosive agent
(advise: use a lime
dissolving agent which does not attack the brass and the solder). The
building of sood on the lower side of the boiler does not influence the function and
can be removed with a brush. Finally, dry the model using a clean cloth.
14. Storage of the boat
Wood is a natural product. In order to maintain the value of the steamship, this
should be stored at room temperature and at a relative humidity of 40 - 70 %. In ca-
se of direct solar radiation the wood can change colour.
Guarantee:
15. All WILESCO Steam Engines are carefully checked before leaving the factory.
However if a problem arises, we will be help you or carry out repairs. You can re-
turn the steamship to a specialized distributor or directly to WILESCO.
We are su-
re you will understand that already fired or used models cannot be exchanged
for new ones.
The most frequents claims are leaking boilers. The solder will be
destroyed if it is not enough water in the boiler. In such cases, the solder liquefy
drop-shaped and the boiler becomes leaking. This is an obvious proof that the boi-
ler was fired without enough water.
Please watch always carefully the water le-
vel because the heating without adequate water level excludes any demand for
guarantee.
This model is only meant for the above described function.
Technical data can be amended without prior notice.
The WILESCO-Team wishes you a lot of pleasure with your Steam Engine and
"weigh the anchor!"
