Zaldek Sub Bass Loudspeaker
The Zaldek powered sub-bass unit uses a long throw 250mm
bass motor and a powerful100 Watt amplifier.
This unit is set to the mains voltage marked on the amplifier
panel. Before connecting check that this voltage is correct for
your mains supply.
230 volt units: 220 - 240 VAC 115 volt units: 110 - 120VAC
If you move to an area with a different mains supply, please
consult your Wharfedale dealer to arrange the conversion of this
product.

If your amplifier does
have a line level subwoofer output,
you will need to feed the subwoofer together with the Front
loudspeakers. For this you will need two extra twin core cables.
The Speaker Level connectors are screw terminals Unscrew
each terminal to expose the mounting hole at the base of the
terminal . Insert the bared end of the cable into the hole and re-
tighten the terminal securely. Ensure there are no loose strands.
If the Front loudspeakers are already connected, disconnect
these cables at the amplifier. Using one of the additional twin
core cables, connect the Left Speaker Input Terminals on the sub
bass unit to the main Left speaker terminals on the amplifier.
Connect the Red (+) speaker terminal on the amplifier to the
Red (+) terminal on the subwoofer. Connect the Black (-)
speaker terminal on the amplifier to the Black (-) terminal on
the subwoofer. With the other additional cable, connect the
Right Speaker Input terminals on the sub bass unit to the Front
Right speaker terminals on the amplifier.
Connect the Left loudspeaker to the Left Speaker Output
terminals on the sub bass unit. Connect the Right loudspeaker
to the Right Speaker Output terminals on the sub bass unit.
Follow the colour coding as described above.
Using an extra cable per channel, connect the subwoofer to
the Front speakers which should in turn be connected to the
amplifier. Follow the colour coding as described above.
If your amplifier has a suitable line output controlled by the
master volume control (i.e.
a tape output), use the
connection shown. You will need a stereo RCA phono cable.
If you use a stereo pre and power amplifier, or an amplifier
where the pre and main amplifier can be separated, connect the
subwoofer as shown. You will need two stereo screened RCA
phono cables.
To do this, first remove the Pre Out-Main In links as necessary.
Next, connect one RCA cable from the Pre Out Sockets on the
amplifier to the Line Level Inputs on the subwoofer. Connect a
second cable from the Line Level Outputs of the subwoofer to the
Main In sockets of the amplifier. Do not mix up Right and Left!
The figures illustrate some suggestions for wiring two
subwoofers. If you need further information consult your dealer
for advice.
Although the unit may be placed almost anywhere in the room,
even behind the sofa or the TV set, we recommend that it be
placed in front of the listener and as central to the listening
position as possible. As the subwoofer is a powered unit there
should be a mains outlet within easy reach.
We suggest you position the subwoofer about 20cm from the
wall. Placing the unit close to the wall will enhance the bass;
placing it across the corner of the room will increase the bass
further, possibly at the expense of clarity. Experiment with a
variety of locations and sources before making a final decision.
Do not place the subwoofer close to surfaces or objects that may
rattle. The floor under the subwoofer should be sound with no
loose floorboards, etc.
Check that all system connections are correct. Set the Subwoofer
Level Control to minimum and the Power switch to OFF. Connect
the power lead of the subwoofer to the mains.
Switch on the power to the subwoofer and check that the Status
Indicator on the front panel glows. Connect the power to the rest
of the system. The system is now operational.
The Level control is located on the front panel. Set this control
initially at midway (12 o’clock). When the other controls have
been set, this can be re-adjusted if needed. Do not set too high a
level or the sound will be bass heavy.
The Bass Crossover control on the front panel integrates the
subwoofer with the main loudspeakers. Set this initially at 9
o’clock for large floor standing speakers and 2 o’clock for
bookshelf units. The can be fined tuned by listening to the
overall sound and adjusting the bass to a suitable level.
Use this control if there is insufficient bass output from the
subwoofer. Listen carefully to some music with extended bass and
switch the Phase switch in and out. Select the position which
produces the most bass, as judged from the listening position.
Depress the Auto Power switch to select this facility and release
the switch to defeat it.
In Autopower mode the subwoofer will switch itself to Standby
when there is no audio signal. When the subwoofer detects a
signal it will switch on. If there is no signal present, after about
30 seconds it will go to Standby. The Status Indicator on the
front panel glows yellow in Standby and red when operational.

he power cord can be left connected but it should be unplugged
if the subwoofer is not going to be used for long periods.
When installing the unit allow least 450mm between the
subwoofer and the TV or the colours on the screen may be
disturbed. If this occurs, switch off the TV set and subwoofer and
move the subwoofer away. Switch on again after 15 minutes.
The circuits of the TV set should restore normal colour.
SUBWOOFER LINE CONNECTIONS
INITIAL SETTING-UP AND OPERATION
If your amplifier or AV processor has a line level subwoofer
output you should always use this connection. You will need a
‘split mono’ screened RCA phono lead which is not supplied but
can be purchased from your dealer.
As an alternative to a split mono lead, connect a single mono
lead from the Subwoofer output of the processor to the Left line
input of the Zaldek Subwoofer. In this case the input level to
the subwoofer will be slightly lower
