9.4 Typical Maintenance Adjustments
9.4.1 Machine Output Rate
It is essential that the machine delivers sufficient formed cases per minute to meet production
requirements, including sufficient ‘catch-up’ reserve speed to cope with the inevitable stops and
starts in the production process. Three adjustments or controls affect the machine’s overall
output, and it is important to understand how they function.
a)
Speed Adjustment
The faster each motion is accomplished, the sooner the cycle is complete. For reasons of
wear and tear, it is desirable that the mechanism speeds be set to run as slowly as possible
while meeting production requirements. These adjustments are made on flow controls
attached to the pneumatic cylinders. However, do not reduce the speed of the forming head
to under 3 seconds, or slow the pusher motion to under 4 seconds respectively. Otherwise,
false jam timer shutdowns will occur. Refer to Section 9.4.2:
below for
further information.
b)
Remote Demand Sensor
The
‘REMOTE DEMAND’
sensor stops the case former when downstream demand for cases
has been satisfied. The sensor must be located at least 4 feet (1.2 meters) downstream from
the discharge end of the WEXXAR case former for proper operation. Make sure there are no
false targets in the sensor’s sensing range. No other adjustments are required.
9.4.2 Mechanism Speeds
All case former motions are pneumatically driven, and their operating speed is controlled by
adjustable flow controls. Generally, it is best to adjust all mechanisms to run as slowly as
possible, while keeping up with production requirements, to minimize the effects of impact and
inertia. A seemingly ‘lazy’ operating machine will be less troublesome than one set to run with
unnecessarily ‘snappy’ motions.
Adjustable flow control valves are fitted to the major flap folder, jaw cylinder, case separator,
injector, and discharge pusher cylinders. The flow controls in the exhaust line are used to control
the mechanism speed. Refer to the ‘Pneumatic Control Circuit’ diagram in the Supplementary
Manual. The flow control in the Black line regulates the speed of the respective cylinder when its
Red line is pressurized to return the mechanism to the
HOME
position.
WARNING!
Any work that involves entering the control panel must
be carried out by a qualified electrician.
