Additional information
Heating borosilicate test tubes the BECELEC Burner does not require any shaking as
practiced with the conventional Bunsen burner. For optimum heating, hold the test
tube still with a suitable test tube holder over the centre of the burner and move slightly
from side to side once the liquid boils. By moving away from the centre, a reduction in
heat prevents boiling and spillage.
For experiments requiring a flame [combustion of metals]
•
Hold the stainless-steel plate by the handle provided.
•
Add a small amount [5ml] of GEL Flame to the centre of the plate. Take care not
to obstruct the small air hole.
•
Place the plate directly onto the Burner when it is at full heat.
•
Wait ten to twenty seconds for the GEL Flame to heat and then tap the plate
handle to ignite.
