4. Maintenance & Cleaning

Please ensure that the washing agent and sanitising agent are BSI accredited and

approved by the H&S department for use on laboratory equipment and stainless steel

within your laboratory.

ATTENTION:

Disconnect the boiling bath from the power supply prior to cleaning!

Basic cleaning procedures

The stainless-steel crevice-free tank is resistant to chloride containing solution, but it is

important to avoid high concentrations of halogens, particularly chloride. The halogen

deposits may show as rust which can be cleaned with nitric acid 10% on a cleaning

cloth – wear protective equipment.

The boiling bath should be emptied at the end of each day. Wash, rinse and dry the

interior surfaces.

Constant level device:

Ensure that the above cleaning process includes the outlet. Pay particular attention to

flushing the outlet thoroughly.

Scale build-up:

In hard water areas, limescale can build up and reduce the efficiency of the boiling

bath. Cleaning at the end of each day can help prevent the build-up but it may be

necessary to descale the bath periodically.

1.  Add 1L of vinegar to the normal capacity of water.
2.  Heat for one hour to 50°C.

Portable appliance testing

These tests should be conducted by a qualified person.

ATTENTION

: Do NOT pat test the boiling bath unless it contains water.

ATTENTION:

 Do NOT flash test!
