Safety Precautions against Kickback and Pushback
▪
To reduce the risk of injury due to kickback, check the proper function of the chain
brake prior to use the chain saw. Always keep the saw chain sharp. This will ensure a
high level of safety against kickback. Removal of any safety parts, inadequate
maintenance or incorrect mounting of the guide bar and saw chain will increase the
safety risk and lead to serious injuries due to kickback.
▪
For safety reasons do not use any other saw chain or guide bar types not specified in
this manual.
▪
Kickback is the upward motion of the guide bar that occurs when the saw chain tip
contacts a hard object. Kickback is dangerous and can lead to loss of control of the
chain saw.
▪
When cutting converted timber and thin branches, always use a safe stand, e. g. a
sawhorse. Do not stack timber pieces for cutting.
▪
Before cutting logs, secure in position. When working on sloping ground, make sure
to work facing upwards.
Personal Safety Equipment
▪
When working with the chain saw, wear eye protection, protective gloves and hearing
protection. Wear cut- proof and tight-fitting clothes, long trousers and safety boots.
▪
Even in case of appropriate use of the chain saw a residual hazard cannot be excluded.
Potential human health hazards can be:
▪
Cuts due to contact with an unprotected saw chain or when touching a moving saw
chain. An unexpected moving of the guide bar can also result in severe cuts.
▪
Abrasions due to parts that are thrown off the saw chain or from the cut material.
▪
The chain saw has a hand arm vibration of 4.2 resp. 4.6 m/s2. To avoid injuries due to
the hand arm vibration, take sufficient rest breaks. Please note the vibration value may
vary if
- the chain saw is not used properly or the chain saw is not correctly assembled,
- the wooden material is not processed correctly, not sharp
