West Mountain Radio

Operating Manual

Thank you for choosing the West Mountain Radio COMspkr. Unlike most

amplified computer speakers, these speakers are especially designed to

function properly in the presence of strong electromagnetic fields.  This

means that they should function without distortion or spurious sound when

operated near a radio frequency transmitter.

The  speakers  are  amplified  and  may  be  used  with  the  line  level

(approximately 0.5 VRMS) output of almost any audio device.  This

includes line or speaker outputs of any computer or radio transceiver.  The

speakers may also be used with the headphone output of most portable

consumer audio devices.

Excellent  frequency  response  provides  high  intelligibility  with  voice

communications and makes the speakers superb for use with music.

Installation

The  placement  of  the  COMspkrs  will  greatly  affect  the  acoustical

performance.  Place the speakers so that both are facing the direction

in which the user will be sitting or standing.  It is recommended for the

best stereo effect that the speakers be approximately 70% of the distance

apart that they are the distance facing the user.  If locating the speakers to

a user’s rear or behind other equipment will muffle the sound and distort

the sound quality.

The Right-hand speaker (for proper stereo) is the one with the power

button and volume wheel on the top.  Locate this speaker to the right side.

Connect the stereo mini plug into the line, headphone or speaker output

of the computer, radio, or other audio devices.  Connect the USB power

connector to the computer or USB charger adapter.

Turn on the COMspkr by pushing in the power switch and confirm that the

power LED lights.

Set the volume wheel approximately the mid-range and adjust the audio

source  for  a  comfortable  volume  level.    Going  forward,  the  COMspkr

volume  control  may  be  used  to  set  the  volume  instead  of  the  source

volume adjustment.
