The shape of the stylus tip (conical, or elliptical, or other shapes) can often have as much of an influence on the listener’s
subjective experience than does the construction of the cartridge. Price and performance are completely linked when it
comes to styli and cartridges, and a poorly-designed stylus can quickly damage a record. Tone arm shape, the material
used in the cantilever and its design, and many other factors greatly influence sound reproduction.
There’s a great deal of room for a consumer to shape his or her listening experience when it comes to vinyl. It’s a matter of
personal taste, music preferences, and, of course, budget.
