EARS
Some dog breeds experience excessive hair growth in and around their ears. For breeds
such as spaniels, this can inhibit the circulation of air and lead to issues. The ability to trim the
hairs around the ear and inside the ear will have positive impact.
Tips for clipping ears
1. With the dog facing you, clip from the hair on the ear in the same direction as the coat
growth. For upright ears (Fig A) start at the base and clip towards the top. For drop ears,
(Fig. B) start at the top of the ear and clip downward.
2. Lay the ear in the palm of your hand. Clip the outside, then the inside.
3. Hold the ear with your free hand, then carefully tidy the hair at the edges with scissors.
It is advisable to place your fingers between the ear and the scissors to prevent catching
the dog’s skin with the scissors.
