Step 2
In the case of blocks sewn together in a patchwork, the seam allowance is
pressed mostly on the dark side of the part that is sewn together. The side
next to the seam, on which no seam allowance is pressed, is called the
darker side. This creates so-called shadowing. When quilting, you sew in
the shadow - in other words, on the side without a seam allowance. The W6
Patchwork Shadow Foot (special accessory) reduces the amount of work
involved in sewing in the shadow. It has a longer-than-normal guide rail that
that prevents slipping when sewing. This is ideal for the sewing in the
shadow.

Step 3
In order to achieve decorative effects when creating a patchwork, the mate-
rials used must differ in terms of their type, nature and colour. The correct
stitch must also be used when sewing the parts together. Use the standard
foot for this stitch.
Let’s get to work:
•
Sew the patchwork pieces together using straight stitches.
•
Always press the seam allowance on the dark side. Ironing helps in this
instance.
Embellish the patchwork with decorative stitches.
