VOLTCRAFT V-CHARGE ECO LIPO 1000 Operating Instructions Manual Download Page 5

•  When you work with the charger or rechargeable batteries, never wear metallic

or strongly conductive materials, such as jewellery (necklaces, bracelets, rings

or similar objects). A short circuit at the rechargeable battery or charger poses a

danger of fire and explosion.

•  Do not leave the rechargeable batteries connected to the charger when the char-

ger is not needed.
Disconnect the charging set from the mains voltage. Pull the mains plug out of

the mains socket. Afterwards, keep the product in a clean and dry place out of

children‘s reach.

•  Only use the device in a moderate climate, do not use it in a tropical climate.

For more information on acceptable environmental conditions, see the chapter

“Technical Data”.

•  Never use the product immediately after it has been brought from a cold room

into a warm one. The resulting condensation may lead to malfunctions or damage

under certain circumstances! Furthermore, this could cause a lethal electric shock!
Allow the charger (and the rechargeable battery/batteries) to reach room tempe-

rature before connecting the charger to the mains supply and using it. This may

take several hours!

•  Please handle the product carefully. The product can be damaged if crushed,

struck, dropped even from a low height or subjected to mechanical pressure and

vibrations.

•  If it can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible, the product must

be turned off and precautions must be taken to ensure that it is not used uninten-

tionally.
It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if the product is visibly

damaged, the product does not work at all, if it was stored long-term in unfavoura-

ble conditions, or if it was exposed to heavy loads during the transport.

d) Handling Rechargeable Batteries

•  Keep rechargeable batteries out of the reach of children. Always keep rechargea-

ble batteries out of the reach of children.

•  Do not leave rechargeable batteries lying around openly. Children or pets may

swallow them. In such a case, call a doctor immediately!

•  Rechargeable batteries must never be short-circuited, taken apart or thrown into

fire. There is a risk of fire and explosion!

•  If your skin comes into contact with leaking or damaged rechargeable batteries,

you may suffer burns. Thus you should use suitable protective gloves.

•  If any rechargeable battery connector cables need to be cut to size (e.g. if the

rechargeable battery is supplied without a connector plug), cut each cable indivi-

dually to prevent a short circuit occurring. Risk of fire and explosion!

•  Use the charger to charge only the rechargeable batteries with appropriate tech-

nology (LiPo). Never use this device to charge other types of rechargeable batte-

ries or non-rechargeable batteries. There is a risk of fire and explosion!
Non-rechargeable batteries are meant to be used once only and must be disposed

of when empty. Charge rechargeable batteries intended for that use only.

•  Batteries must not get damp or wet.
•  Never damage the exterior of a rechargeable battery. There is a risk of fire and

explosion!

•  Never charge/discharge rechargeable batteries unattended.
•  Never charge/discharge a rechargeable battery directly in the model. First, remo-

ve the battery from the model, disconnect it totally from speed or flight controller.

•  Please observe the correct polarity (plus/+ and minus/-) when inserting the rechar-

geable battery into the charger or into the model (for e.g. an autopilot). Should you

connect the rechargeable battery incorrectly, not only will the model be damaged

but also the rechargeable battery. There is a risk of fire and explosion!

•  Do not charge any rechargeable battery that is still hot (e.g. caused by high charge

current from the model). Allow the rechargeable battery to cool down to room

temperature before attempting to charge it again.

•  Never charge/discharge damaged, leaking or deformed rechargeable batteries.

This can result in a fire or explosion! Dispose such unusable rechargeable batte-

ries in an environmentally compatible manner.

•  Never use a LiPo rechargeable battery composed of different types of cells.
•  Recharge the rechargeable batteries about every 3 months, as otherwise there

may be a total discharge due to self-discharge, which makes the rechargeable

batteries useless.

•  Disconnect the rechargeable battery from the charger when the rechargeable bat-

tery is fully charged.

•  Improper use (too high charging current or incorrect polarity) can supercharge or

damage the rechargeable battery. In the worst case, the rechargeable battery can

explode and thereby cause serious damage.

•  Never damage the rechargeable battery, never let the rechargeable battery fall, do

not pierce the rechargeable battery with any objects! Avoid applying any mechani-

cal loads to the rechargeable battery, never pull on the battery‘s connector cables!

There is a risk of fire and explosion!
These guidelines must also be observed when the rechargeable battery is inser-

ted into the model (if the model is removed, for example).

•  Ensure that the rechargeable battery does not overheat during usage, recharging,

discharging, transport or storage. Do not place the rechargeable battery adjacent

to sources of heat (e.g. cruise control, motor), keep the rechargeable battery away

from direct sunlight. There is a risk of fire and explosion if the rechargeable battery

overheats!

•  The rechargeable battery must not reach a temperature higher than 60°C (obser-

ve additional instructions of the manufacturer with other limitations as applicable!).

•  If there are damages on the rechargeable battery, do not use it any more. Do not

recharge it. There is a risk of fire and explosion!
Only touch the rechargeable battery with care, use suitable protective gloves.
Dispose of the rechargeable battery in an environmentally compatible manner.

•  If the rechargeable battery manufacturer provides no information as to maximum

permissible charge current, charge the LiPo rechargeable battery with the ma-

ximum current of 1C. This means that the charging current may not exceed the

capacity value imprinted on the rechargeable battery (e.g. rechargeable battery

capacity 1000 mAh, max. charging current 1000 mA = 1 A).
Observe the additional safety instructions from the manufacturer of the recharge-

able batteries/battery packs that you use.

Connections and Control Elements

1  Mains supply socket
2  XH jacks for connecting a LiPo rechargeable battery
3  Power LED
4  Status LED

Only connect one single rechargeable battery to the charger at a time. Always use

only one of the XH jacks at a time.

If more than one rechargeable battery is connected to the charger, both the charger

and rechargeable battery can be damaged!

Installation and Operation

•  Connect the power socket (1) to an appropriate mains socket via the supplied power cable.

The Power LED (3) lights up green when the charger is ready for operation.

•  Place the charger on a level, flat, stable surface. Protect valuable furniture surfaces by using

a suitable mat to prevent scratches, pressure points or discolourations.
The casing of the charger heats up during operation. Therefore make sure that the charger is

always adequately ventilated; never cover it while in operation.

•  Disconnect the LiPo rechargeable battery from the speed or flight controller.
•  Connect the rechargeable battery to be charged via its XH balancer plug with the relevant

jack (2) of the charger. At that, observe the correct polarity of the XH plug. When connecting,

do not use excessive force; always use a socket matching the jack.

If your rechargeable battery has a balancer connector with other plug type than XH,

there will be a matching adapter in the accessories trade.

Only connect one single rechargeable battery to the charger at a time. Always use

only one of the XH jacks at a time.

Please note that only a LiPo rechargeable battery of serial configuration can be

charged (marked e.g. as 2S or 3S).

Special rechargeable batteries with e.g. connectors of both cells led out separately

cannot be charged by this charger.

•  The charger starts the charging process and charges the LiPo rechargeable battery via its

balancer connector. Adaptation of the cell voltages occurs at the same time, so that all cells

have the same voltage after the charging process is completed (insignificant deviations de-

pend on technical factors).

The charging current or capacity of the charger (see chapter “Technical Data”) is

divided to cells depending on their number. The more cells the connected recharge-

able battery has, the longer is the charging process.
