VEHICLE MULTIMEDIA POWER ADAPTER SMP-60

Item No. 51 17 12

1. Intended use

The power adapter converts 12 to 16V  from a vehicle’s onboard power supply to an adjustable voltage output (5, 6,
9 or 12 V ) for electrical devices (e.g. portable DVD player) with a power consumption up to 60W.
It  is  only  authorized  to  be  operated  in  dry  environment,  such  as  indoors  or  inside  vehicles.  Do  not  expose  it  to
moisture. It must be powered through a 12V vehicle cigarette lighter outlet.

This  product  fulfils  European  and  national  requirements  related  to  electromagnetic  compatibility  (EMC).
CE conformity has been verified and the relevant statements and documents have been deposited at the
manufacturer.

Unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the device are inadmissible because of safety and approval reasons
(CE). Any usage other than described above is not permitted and can damage the product and lead to associated
risks such as short-circuit, fire, electric shock, etc. Please read the operating instructions thoroughly and keep them
for further reference.

All company names and product designations contained herein are trademarks of the respective owners.
All rights reserved.

2. Safety instructions

We do not assume liability for resulting damages to property or personal injury if the product
has been abused in any way or damaged by improper use or failure to observe these operating
instructions. The warranty will then expire!
The icon with exclamation mark indicates important information in the operating instructions.
Carefully read the whole operating instructions before operating the device, otherwise there is
risk of danger.

Personal safety

According to StVZO (Motor Vehicle Regulations), do not operate any electrical load that connected

•

to the power adapter while the vehicle is in motion.
The product is not a toy and should be kept out of reach of children and pets!

•

When inserting the cigarette lighter plug, ensure that it is connected tightly. If the plug is connected

•

improperly, the power adapter will heat up.
The product should not be connected immediately after it has been brought from an area of cold

•

temperature to an area of warm temperature. Condensed water might destroy the product. Wait
until the product stabilises to adapt to the new ambient temperature before use.

Product safety

The device must not be subjected to heavy mechanical stress.

•

The  device  must  not  be  exposed  to  extreme  temperatures,  direct  sunlight,  intense  vibration  or

•

dampness.
No object should block the ventilation holes located at the side of the power adapter. Sufficient

•

air circulation  must be provided since the voltage inverter is predominantly cooled by convection
ventilation.
During thunderstorms, unplug the device from the cigarette lighter socket in order to avoid damages

•

due to excess voltage.
The power adapter must not be connected to any electrical load with power consumption greater

•

than 60W or with current consumption greater than 5A.
Observe the polarity and magnitude of the output voltage. Incorrect polarity or overvoltage leads to

•

the destruction of the connected electrical load.
Only fuses of the same type and rated current as specified in “Technical Data” may be used. The

•

use of repaired or defective fuses is not permitted under any circumstances.
Always turn off the electrical load before plugging/unplugging the power adapter to cigarette lighter

•

outlet.
Make sure that the output of the power adapter is not short-circuited.

•

Never start engine of the vehicle when the adapter is connected and in operation. Voltage peaks

•

can destroy the device as well as the connected electrical load. Disconnect the power adapter from
the cigarette lighter outlet before starting, start the engine and re-connect the power adapter.

Miscellaneous

Repair works must only be carried out by a specialist/ specialist workshop.

•

3. Operation

A) Selecting output voltage

Determine the input voltage of the electrical load to be operated. Usually, the necessary input voltage is stated

1.

near the power receptacle or on the imprint label of the electrical load. Make sure the power consumption of the
electrical load does not excess 60W.
Set the appropriate output voltage on the power adapter by sliding the slide switch at the front (from 5V

2.

, 6V

, 9V  or 12V ).

B) Selecting output plug

Select the output plug suitable for the application and connect it to the power adapter.

1.

For safety reasons, it’s impossible to change the polarity of the output plug. The inner contact is positive, “+” and

2.

the outer contact is negative “–”.

In order to avoid loose contact, the output plug is designed to be stiff to remove.
Always use the grip areas provided when replacing output plug.
The output plug can only fit in to the power adapter in one orientation. Do not force the it into the
power adapter.

C) Connecting the power adapter to electrical load

Insert the output plug into the power receptacle of the electrical load to be used.

1.

Plug the cigarette lighter plug to a 12V cigarette lighter outlet. The green LED lights up on the power adapter to

2.

indicate normal function.
The centre pin of the cigarette lighter plug is the positive terminal, “+”, and the two side clamps are the negative
terminals, “–”.
Position the power adapter on a sturdy, non-flammable base, which allows sufficient air circulation for cooling.

3.

Switch on the connected electrical load.

4.

In case of failure, switch off the connected electrical load and then remove the power adapter from the
12V cigarette lighter outlet. Afterward, examine the installed fuse and make sure that the set output
voltage matches the input voltage of the electrical load.

4. Fuse replacement

Unplug the power adapter from the cigarette lighter outlet and disconnect the electrical load.

1.

Turn the plastic tip of the cigarette lighter plug anticlockwise to open the fuse compartment.

2.

Replace the defective fuse with a new one of the same type (please refer to “Technical Data”).

3.

Close the fuse compartment.

4.

5. Care

Wipe the housing of the inverter with a slightly damp cloth. Only use water to moisten the cloth. Do not use chemicals
or cleaning agents when cleaning.

6. Disposal

In order to preserve, protect and improve the quality of environment, protect human health and utilise
natural  resources  prudently  and  rationally,  the  user  should  return  unserviceable  product  to  relevant
facilities in accordance with statutory regulations.
The  crossed-out  wheeled  bin  indicates  the  product  needs  to  be  disposed  separately  and  not  as
municipal waste.
