VERSION 05/11
VOLTAGE DETECTOR MS-420
ITEM NO. 12 58 24
INTENDED USE
The product detects stationary electrostatic fields generated by AC voltage via the insulation
whithout the need of direct contact to the plain conductor. A red light at the tip of the device and
vibration are signalling the presence of voltage. In addition, a LED light is integrated to illuminate
dark corners.
The device is solely to be operated with the AAA batteries. Avoid under all circumstance con-
tact to moistness.
For safety and approval reasons (CE), the unauthorized conversion and/or modification of the
product is prohibited. Any other use that described above is not permitted. It may lead to dam-
age to the product. Moreover, it may cause hazards such as short-circuit, fire, electric shock,
etc.. Read the operating instructions carefully and keep them for later reference.
EXPLANATION OF THE SYMBOLS
A triangle containing an exclamation mark indicates important information in these
operating instructions which is to be observed without fail.
Protection class 2 insulation (double or reinforced insulation)
CAT III
Overvoltage category III for measuring in building installation (e.g. outlets or sub-
distribution). This category also covers all smaller categories (e.g. CAT II for meas-
uring electronic devices).
CAT IV
Overvoltage category IV for measuring at the source of the low voltage installation
(e.g. the main distribution, the main transfer point of the utility company, etc.). This
category also contains all lower categories.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any conse-
quential damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury
caused by incorrect handling or non-compliance with the safety instruc-
tions. In such cases the warranty will be null and void.
An exclamation mark indicates that important notes in these operating
instructions should always be observed.
This device left the manufacture’s factory in a safe and perfect condition.
We kindly request the user to observe the safety instructions and warnings contained in the
enclosed operating instructions so this condition is maintained and to ensure safe operation.
Please pay attention to the following symbols:
A triangle containing an exclamation mark indicates important information in these
operating instructions which is to be observed without fail.
This product has been CE tested and complies with the required European guide-
lines.
The arrow symbol indicates that special tips and notes on operation are provided
here.
The unauthorized conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible for reasons of
safety and approval (CE).
The voltage between the indicator and ground must not exceed overvoltage category III 1000V.
The device may not be exposed to any mechanical strain.
The device must not be exposed to exteme temperatures, direct sunlight or intense vibration.
Keep the unit out of the reach of children. It is not a toy.
Do not leave packaging materials unattended. They could become a dangerous playthings for
children.
On commercial premises, the relevant accident prevention regulations of the relevant
professional insurance association for electrical systems and operating materials are to be
observed!
If a safe operation can no longer be assumed, the device has to be put out of operation and
secured against unintended operation. A safe operation can no longer be assumed, if:
• the product exhibits visible damage,
• it does not function any longer and
• the device has been stored for long periods of time under unfavourable conditions or
• after it was exposed to extraordinary stress caused by transport.
Never expose the device to moistness or liquids.
°
Never switch the device on immediately after it has been taken from a cold into a warm environ-
ment. Condensation that forms might destroy your device. Allow the device to reach room tem-
perature before switching it on.

4 LED lamp
OPERATION
Check the voltage indicator at a working circuit within the admissible voltage range of the device
prior to every use.
a) Contact-free voltage indication
Using the circuit integrated in the tip the MS-420 is capable of detecting live lines. If alternating
voltage below 110 Volt AC is recognised, the white cap (1) lights up red and the device vibrates.
In order to detect voltages below 110 V AC use the button (3) to turn on the torch light. Now,
alternating voltages from 12 V AC can be detected. For this, current conduction is not necessary.
If there is no indication, there still can be voltage. Operation can be influenced by
differences of the design of the connection socket and the thickness and type of the
insulation. The device cannot detect voltages in amoured cables or pipe-type cables just
as little as behind panels or metallic covers.
b) Torch light (4)
Turn on the integrated torch light with button (3). The integrated high performance LED reach-
es a lighting duration of up to 60 hours (per battery set). The life cycle of the LED is more than
100,000 hours.
REPLACING THE BATTERY
Replace the battery if the display appears weak.
To open the battery compartment (2) use a screwdriver. Carefully pry it open at the notch.
Replace the worn batteries by two new AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity.
Slide the battery compartment lid back on until it snaps in.
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
You do not need to service the product, apart from occasional cleaning. Use a soft, antistatic
and lint-free cloth for cleaning. Do not use abrasive or chemical cleaners.
Carefully rinse the gooseneck of the Endoscope with clean water, after use in liquids and dry it
before storing it in the case.
DISPOSAL
Electronic products are raw material and do not belong in the household waste.
When the device has reached the end of its service life, please dispose of it,
according to the current statutory requirements, at your local collecting site.
Disposal in the domestic waste is not permitted!
Disposal of Used Batteries
You, as the end customer, are legally obliged (Battery Ordinance) to return
all used batteries and accumulators. Disposal in the household waste is pro-
hibited!
You can return used (rechargeable) batteries free of charge at the official collec-
tion points in your municipality, our stores, or where ever (rechargeable) batteries
are sold!
You thus fulfil the legal requirements and make your contribution to protecting the environment!
