Scope
This configuration guide explains how to set up and configure a primary link using the
GSM (3G) modem on a GW2040 Series router.

This document is for engineers who have previous experience configuring and managing
GW Series routers.

Assigned interface number
Throughout this guide we have used ppp-2 as the assigned interface number. You can
configure any PPP interface number for connections. For example, ppp-1 could be
substituted for each ppp-2 task covered in this document.

References to GSM (3G)
The GW2040 web interface refers to GSM, not 3G, so screen grabs of the web interface
will vary.

Prerequisites
1.5.1
Inserting the SIM card
Ensure the unit is powered off.
Hold the SIM card with the chip side facing down and the cut corner top left.
Gently push the SIM card into SIM slot 1 until it clicks in.
To remove the SIM card, gently push the SIM card. The card will click out.
WARNING
The SIM card MUST be inserted into the SMG before the unit is powered on.
