5.16 Compact xPEP TCP/IP Accelerator

5.16.1 Overview

The ViaSat Compact xPEP TCP/IP Accelerator is a performance
enhancing proxy designed to boost secure satellite networks.

The TCP acceleration provides fast, dependable performance for

running web

applications, sending email, and transferring files over a secure satellite

connection.

The Compact xPEP provides TCP/IP acceleration for reliable end-to-end
communications without requiring any changes to end-user equipment

or software.

The Compact xPEP automatically detects the user’s network
configuration and chooses between SCPS-TP, XL, and one-way

acceleration to maximize data throughput.

The device also supports multicast traffic and VLANs (Virtual Local
Area Networks). Multicast packets are bridged to provide multicast

traffic without making any network changes. The Compact xPEP can
terminate VLAN trunking without an additional VLAN device. The unit

also accelerates TCP packets that are encapsulated using GRE tunnels,
providing networking regardless of network configuration. Figure 5-44

and Figure 5-45 show the ViaSat Compact xPEP TCP/IP Accelerator
