Electric Tea Kettle
The
Upton Tea Imports
Electric Tea Kettle is made from quality materials and electri-
cal components. It is intended for household use only and, with proper care, it will
last for many years. The fixed-temperature model (AK15) will bring water to a boil
in a few minutes and shut off upon reaching the boiling point. The variable-temper-
ature model (AK16) allows the shut-off temperature to be set below the boiling
point, if desired. Both models have an internal safety shut-off switch which shuts the
kettle off if it should boil dry or be turned on accidentally when dry.
Caution
:
Should the safety shut-off be triggered by allowing the kettle to boil dry,
unplug the base and allow the kettle to cool for several minutes before handling.
Cool water should then be added to the kettle through the spout to cool the kettle
completely before the next use.
Additional Safety Precautions
• Do not fill the kettle above the
36-oz MAX
indicator, located inside the kettle.
• When pouring, avoid contact with any escaping steam.
• Do not use your electric kettle to heat liquids other than water.
• Do not place your kettle on a stove, open flame or heat source other than the
included base.
• Do not immerse the kettle or its base in water.
• Do not attempt to open or otherwise disassemble the kettle or its base.
• Do not leave your kettle unattended / Keep out of the reach of children.

Cleaning Your Electric Kettle
IMPORTANT:
Remove kettle from its electric base before cleaning.
Allow kettle to fully cool before attempting to clean.
Avoid letting
water into the top of the steam-vent tube, located inside the kettle.
Inside
: Rinse the inside of the kettle with cool, clean water. A mild soap can be used,
so long as care is taken to thoroughly rinse the inside of the kettle. The use of harsh
or abrasive cleaners may damage the finish of your kettle.
Over time, scale build-up may accumulate on the inside of the kettle. This can be
removed by pouring a small amount of vinegar into the kettle and allowing it to soak
overnight. A citric acid solution, or any commercially-available coffee pot cleaner
will also work. After descaling, rinse the kettle thoroughly and discard the first kettle
of boiled water to remove any residual descaling solution.
Outside
: The outside of the kettle can be wiped clean with a soft, damp cloth.
Base
:
Should the base require cleaning, remember to unplug the base from the elec-
trical outlet. Do not attempt to disassemble or submerge the base in water, but
rather wipe it with a damp cloth. Allow to fully dry before plugging it back into the
outlet.

Using Your Electric Kettle
• Remove the kettle from its electric base, which should be
plugged into a grounded AC outlet.
• Open the lid by pressing the lid release and lifting.
• Fill the kettle with water, up to the internal
36-oz MAX
metal marker.
• Close the lid tightly & return the kettle to its base.
•
For model AK16:
Rotate the dial to adjust temperature: Turn the dial clockwise
for warmer water, counter-clockwise for cooler water. Refer to the table below
for approximate temperature based upon dial position (36 ounces of water*):
• Depress the switch at the base of the kettle, beneath the handle.
• The kettle will automatically shut off upon reaching the set temperature.
• Remove the kettle from the base and pour water through the spout.
*Both models can be used to heat as little as 12 ounces of water. However, small
amounts of water will come to a full boil at lower dial settings (AK16). The most
consistent results will be obtained when the kettle is filled to the internal
36-oz MAX
indicator.
The Upton Tea Imports
Tea Thermometer (AR21) can confirm the water
temperature at any fill level and dial setting, and is recommended as an aid to ensure
optimum results.
