Testing the wire rope hoist

10 Testing the wire rope hoist

The electric wire rope hoist can be used after: UVV
"Winches, lifting and pulling equipment" BGV D8 (VBG
8), UVV "Cranes"  BGV D6 (VBG 9).

Testing in compliance with BGV D8 Section 23 (VBG 8
Section 23) by a specialist before commissioning and
following major changes.

Testing in compliance with BGV D6 Section 25 (VBG 9
Section 25) by an authorised expert before commission-
ing and following any major changes.

Annual repeat testing of equipment, crane and support-
ing structures by a specialist. Where equipment is sub-
ject to heavy operational conditions (e.g. frequent oper-
ation with a full load, dusty or aggressive environment,
frequent stopping, long operation time) the testing inter-
vals should be reduced.

- With regard to testing cranes, experts are exclu-

sively TÜV experts or experts authorised by pro-
fessional bodies or associations.

- Specialists are customer service installers em-

ployed by the manufacturer or specially trained
specialist personnel.

Evidence of wire rope hoist testing should be kept in an
inspection log book.

Testing is generally a visual and functional test. It in-
cludes an inspection of the condition of the components
and equipment, the completeness and functionality of

the safety equipment and the completeness of the log
book.

11 Disposal, recycling of used devices

Please take care in your own interest and in the interest
of the environment that all component parts of the ma-
chine are only disposed of in the intended and permit-
ted way.

11.1 Decommissioning

Immediately decommission disused machines in order
to avoid later misuse and endangering of the environ-
ment or personal safety.

Step 1: Eliminate all environmentally hazardous operat-

ing materials from the used device.

Step 2: If required, disassemble the machine into easy-

to-handle and usable components and parts.

Step 3: Dispose of machine components and operating

materials by the disposal channels provided.

11.2 Disposal of lubricants

Remove any leaking, used or excessive grease at the lu-
bricating points.

Disposal notes for used lubricants are available from the
manufacturer of the lubricants. If necessary, request the
product-specific data sheets.

12 Fault finding

Failures

Possible cause

Solution

wire rope hoist motor is not function-
ing.

1. Switch defective.
2. Motor defective.
3. Bad contact.

1. Replace switch.
2. Change motor.
3. Check contacts.

Temperature of motor too high.

Long service life.

 File cooling phases.

Motor operates, wire rope hoist does
not operate.

1. Coupling is not engaged.

When the problem occurs further-

more, inform the service.

wire rope hoist operates with too low
power or too low speed.

1. Battery power is too low.
2. Bad contact.
3. Insufficient recharge.

1. Load or replace battery.
2. Check connections.
3. Check charger and replace if nec-

essary.

Motor is wet.

Humidity is too high or water ingress.

Drain the water. Dry the device. After
that start the motor and let it operate
for a little while. Repeat this proce-
dure a few times.
