So how do you learn to fly?

Your local full-service hobby dealer should be able to guide you to a local model airplane club and flying field where help
will be available. Your hobby dealer also stocks books and sometimes video tapes on learning how to fly. PUT YOURSELF
THROUGH GROUND SCHOOL
with these aids and learn what you're doing before you go to the field. Get to know your
dealer. He is a helpful source of advice and you will see him frequently for parts, props and fuel! Your local library also may
carry books and literature on learning to fly. Hobby trade magazines are also filled with ads about books, video's and

literature that is available to you at very reasonable price.

There are thousands of flying clubs in the U.S. Most are affiliated with the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics). The AMA

is a national organization that helps organize events, offers insurance to pilots, and helps to keep the hobby safe and enjoyable

for all. Most AMA chartered clubs have an instruction program where an experienced modeler will help you check out your
plane before flying and trim it out on its first flight. He will be able to help you learn to fly and get you through your first solo.
We strongly recommend that you join a local club, and that you join the AMA.

IF YOU HAVE A COMPUTER...

There are several great software programs available that help people just like you learn to fly. RealFlight Generation 2 is
one of the most authentic radio control simulation ever produced. With 17 lifelike airplanes and 11 3D helis, plus a genuine

Futaba® controller learning to fly has never been easier. RealFlight G2's Virtual Flight Instructor includes prerecorded
maneuvers from R/C experts from entry-level up to advanced aerobatics. The onscreen transmitter even shows the stick
inputs in real time so you can see exactly how the maneuver is done. You can even fly along simultaneously, duplicating

the maneuver with your aircraft. For more information see: www.realflight.com or visit your local dealer.

FLOATS
Nothing is more romantic and exciting than flying a plane on floats. You should try it as part of your modeling experience.
If you plan on installing our Explorer"" floats, no modifications to your airplane are necessary Deluxe Explorer floats come

complete with gear and mounting hardware, and simply bolt on to your COLT 40 like landing gear. You can switch from
floats to gear in a few minutes at the field. If you purchase other manufacturer's floats, consult their instructions when
building your plane to help when it comes time to install them.

A WATER RUDDER is often necessary for floats. You can install a rudder on your floats (get advice) or extend a 3/16" dowel
from a vacant flute in your rudder down to the water level and glue on a 1/16" plywood rudder to the dowel. This makes a

removable water rudder for your COLT 40. HAVE FUN!!!
