Backup and Restore
iSTAR eX backup is similar to the iSTAR Classic backup. iSTAR eX writes
backup data from RAM to the Compact Flash card. During restoration, iSTAR
eX writes the data from the Compact Flash card to RAM.
iSTAR eX maintains the last two backups of the data. Each backup stores its
write time. When iSTAR eX does perform a backup, it overwrites the older
backup. This means, for example, that if the backup is interrupted by the reset
switch, the previous backup is still available. When iSTAR eX performs a
restoration, it restores from the newer backup.
State and Configuration Backups
There are two types of backups: state and configuration.

State - A state backup saves all state and configuration data, including all
manual actions, keypad commands, antipassback information, and
activity reports.
When a state backup is restored, the state of the system is the same as when
the backup is done, with the exception of states dependent on the physical
world, such as input states, time specs, and expired manual actions.

Configuration - A configuration backup saves only configuration data.
State data is not saved. When a configuration backup is restored, the
default state of the system is used. The state at the time of the backup is
lost.
State data includes manual actions, keypad commands, antipassback
information, and activity reports.

Event triggered backup does a configuration backup.

Power fail backup does a “one-time” state backup; if a power-fail backup
is restored more than once, because for example, the reset button was
pressed after the restoration of a power-fail backup, the restorations
beyond the first one will only be configuration backups.
