CHAPTER 3 - WATER HEATER START-UP
3.1. Filling the Inner (Domestic Water) Tank
• Never use the PRESTIGE Excellence unless
inner and outer tanks of the water heater
are completely filled with water.
• Inner tank of the PRESTIGE Excellence wa-
ter heater must be completely filled and
pressurized before pressurizing outer tank.
• Failure to comply with these instructions
can result in minor property damage, or in-
jury.
1. Close domestic water drain valve.
2. Open domestic water isolation valves on the water
heater piping.
3. Vent air from inner (domestic water) tank by open-
ing nearest hot water faucet.
4. Fill domestic water tank completely by allowing
water to run until there is a constant flow of water.
5. Close hot water faucet.
3.2. Filling the Outer (Boiler Water) Tank
• Never use the PRESTIGE Excellence unless
inner and outer tanks of the water heater
are completely filled with water.
• Inner tank of the PRESTIGE Excellence wa-
ter heater must be completely filled and
pressurized before pressurizing outer tank.
• Failure to comply with these instructions can
result in minor property damage, or injury.
Reference the PRESTIGE Excellence boiler man-
ual for boiler start-up and guidelines for filling
the boiler.

CAUTION
If antifreeze is used in boiler water, check concentration.
Boiler water (including additives) must be practically
non-toxic, having toxicity rating or class of 1, as listed in
Clinical Toxicology of Commercial Products.
Do not use automotive, ethylene glycol
or petroleum-based antifreeze. Do not use
any undiluted antifreeze. This can cause sub-
stantial property damage, serious injury, or
death.
3.3. Setting the Thermostatic Mixing Valve
The thermostatic mixing valve controls the
hot water temperature delivered to the faucets.
POTENTIAL SCALD HAZARD. The mixing
valve must be installed on the Excellence. Re-
moval or adjustment of the mixing valve will
create a potential scald hazard, which can re-
sult in serious injury, or death.
If any adjustment needs to be made to the valve’s tem-
perature setpoint refer to the manufacturer’s instruc-
tions included with the valve.
