F-em User Guide
5.11 The Mod Matrix
On this page, you find the modulation matrix controls. To open this
page, click on the Mod selection field in the left section. Each Layer
features its own modulation matrix with up to 200 modulation slots.
A modulation can be described as a generating unit’s influence upon a
sound parameter. The terms used in this context are “Source” and
“Destination”. F-em offers 200 independent modulation assignments
(slots) each with individual settings of two sources, destination and
amount - and that for everyone of the 4 Layers. A total of 800
modulation options per sound.
To set up a modulation, click on the first Source pop-up menu and
select a desired source, e.g. “Flow LFO 1”. If desired, select another
source in the Source 2 pop-up menu that influences Source 1, e.g. “Mod
Wheel”. This is not necessary for a regular modulation. Now select a
destination, e.g. “Pan Mix Op 8”. Finally, set amount to a desired value,
for example to 50.0%. Now you have set up a periodic panning
modulation that can be controlled by the Mod Wheel.
On the first page of the Matrix page you will find the first 15 modulation
slots. Click on the “016” button to select the next 15 ones and so on.
Again, you should use the comprehensive modulation assignment of
F-em to easy add modulations. Read more about this in the chapter
“Modulation Assignment”.

✎
We strongly recommend to use the Mod Matrix only as an
overview of your assigned modulations, not for setting up them.
Because of the massive number of sources and amounts, this is
an extensive amount of work. Therefore, we have implemented
the Assign function which makes modulation assignments very
easy. Go for it!
