Using the Alerta System
The system is designed to continuously monitor
a person wearing a Patch. The monitoring is
done by a hand held device called the Wedge. This is a
one on one relationship between the Patch and the
Wedge over a fixed distance. The distance of the Safe
Zone is 75 to 90 feet, depending on the structure and
environment where it is used. As such, it will give the
person maximum flexibility while keeping them in line of
sight. The proximity can be modified by the caregiver by
placing the Wedge in a closer or further proximity to
the Patch. This is facilitated by the Signal Strength
indicator. The more signal, the closer the person is and
the caregiver can get ample warning before an alarm.
Since the system works well when the person is sitting
or lying down, they can be monitored easily in normal
living.
An alarm will sound and the Out of Range light will flash
when the Wedge has lost contact with the Patch. This is
the indication that will most often mean the person
wearing the Patch has wandered more than 75FT from
the caregiver. This is a Hard Alarm (HA). When triggered,
the alarm will sound until the reset button is pushed, or
until it times out after 2.5 minutes. If the individual
wearing the Patch returns to the Safety Zone, the alarm
will stop and monitoring will resume. On occasion the
Wedge will alarm because of some transient interrup-
tion. This is a False Positive Alarm (FPA). This alarm will
reset automatically.
Battery Level
The Battery Level indicator will light up when the battery
in the Wedge must be changed immediately.
