Starting and Stopping the
Engine
Starting the Engine
1. Sit down on the seat (Figure 19).
2. Move the motion controls outward to the neutral
lock position (Figure 19).
3. Set the parking brake (Figure 15); refer to Setting
the Parking Brake.
4. Move the blade control switch (PTO) to the Off
position (Figure 19).
5. Pull up on the Choke control before starting a cold
engine.
Note:
A warm or hot engine may not require
choking.

6. Turn the ignition key to the Start position
(Figure 18). When the engines starts, release the key.
Important:
Do not engage starter for more
than 5 seconds at a time. If the engine fails
to start allow a 15 second cool-down period
between attempts. Failure to follow these
instructions can burn out the starter motor.
7.
After the engine starts, push down on the Choke
control. If the engine stalls or hesitates, pull up
on the Choke control and let the engine run for a
few seconds. Then push down the Choke control.
Repeat as required.
Note:
Additional starting cycles may be required
when starting the engine for the first time after the
fuel system has been without fuel completely.

CAUTION
Children or bystanders may be injured if they
move or attempt to operate the tractor while it is
unattended.
Always remove the ignition key and set the parking
brake when leaving the machine unattended, even
if just for a few minutes.
