Belt Maintenance
Replacing the Mower-Deck
Belt
Service Interval: Every 100 hours—Check the mower-deck
belt.
Signs of a worn belt include squeaking when the belt is
rotating, a slipping blade when cutting grass, a frayed belt
edge, burn marks, and cracks. Replace the deck belt if any of
these conditions are evident.
1. Disengage the PTO and set the parking brake.
2. Shut off the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
3. Remove the 4 carriage bolts and 4 nuts connecting the
2 side covers to the belt covers (

4. Remove the bolt connecting the 2 belt covers ( Figure
63 ).

5. Remove the 6 bolts connecting the belt covers to the
mower deck and slide the belt covers out from under
the idler cover (
Figure 64 ).

6. Remove the belt.
7. Install the belt and route it as shown in Figure 65 .

8. Install the belt covers using 6 bolts ( Figure 64 ).
9. Install the bolt to connect the 2 belt covers ( Figure 63 ).
10. Install the 2 side covers to the belt covers using the 4
carriage bolts and 4 nuts (
Figure 62 ).
