Slowly
pour oil into the oil fill tube until the oil level
reaches the Full line on the dipstick (Figure 34).
Do not overfill.
(Max. fill: 22 oz. (0.65 l), type:
10W-30 or SAE 30 detergent oil with an API service
classification of SJ or higher.)
Note:
Each time you check the oil level, remove the
dipstick and wipe it clean, insert it into the oil filler
neck (but
do not
screw it in), then remove it again
and check the level (Figure 34).
Note:
If you overfill the engine, pour some oil out
of it as directed in Changing the Engine Oil.
5. Install the dipstick securely.
6. Dispose of the used oil properly at a local recycling
center.
Replacing the Fuel Filter
Service Interval:
Every 50 hours/Yearly (whichever
comes first)
1. Perform the pre-maintenance procedures; refer to
Preparing for Maintenance.
Note:
Empty the fuel tank before performing this
procedure; refer to Preparing for Maintenance.
2. Remove the air cleaner cover to provide easier access
to the fuel filter. Refer to Changing the Air Cleaner
Element.
3. Pinch the clamps and remove the old fuel filter from
the fuel line (Figure 36).

4. Install a new fuel filter, and secure it with the clamps
(Figure 36).
Lubricating the Wheel Gears
Service Interval:
Every 25 hours
1. Wipe the grease fittings just inside the rear wheels
with a clean rag (Figure 37).

2. Install a grease gun onto each fitting and gently apply
2 or 3 pumps of #2 multi-purpose lithium-base
grease.
Replacing the Blade
Service Interval:
Before each use or daily
Every 25 hours—Replace the blade
or have it sharpened (more frequently
if the edge dulls quickly).
Important:
You will need a torque wrench to install
the blade properly
. If you do not have a torque
wrench or are uncomfortable performing this
procedure, contact an Authorized Service Dealer.
Examine the blade whenever you run out of gasoline. If
the blade is damaged or cracked, replace it immediately.
If the blade edge is dull or nicked, have it sharpened or
replace it.
The blade is sharp; contacting the blade can
result in serious personal injury.
Wear gloves when servicing the blade.
1. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug.
Refer to Preparing for Maintenance.
2. Tip the mower onto its side with the air filter up.
3. Use a block a wood to hold the blade steady
(Figure 38).
