Remove all sump plugs and examine cavity for
metal particles. Metal particles found in a new
engine installation do not necessarily mean
trouble, but should be investigated anyway. If no
problems are found, change oil and ground test
the engine. Persistent metal particles or if an
older engine starts producing them, an engine
change may be warranted. If this is the case, the
oil cooler should also be changed and the oil tank
and all oil lines and hoses should be cleaned.
