7.1.6 Commands and Responses
The prefix of the command parameters and response data tells the type of the data:
a_
ASCII (characters in set ‘!’ to ‘˜ ‘).
sc_
Signed character (-128 to 127).
uc_
Unsigned character (0 to 255).
si_
Signed integer (-32768 to 32767).
ui_
Unsigned integer (0 to 65535).
sl_
Signed long (-2147483648 to 2147483647)
ul_
Unsigned long (0 to 4294967295).
f_
Float (±1.175494E-38 to ±3.38).
When the range of a command parameter is not given, any value the parameter type permits is
accepted.
For clarity, the <CR><LF> characters at the end of a command or response line are not shown
from now on.
7.1.7 Ascii String Arguments
String arguments (arguments having the prefix
a_
in the command descriptions) may contain
whitespace characters. If this is the case then the argument must be enclosed in double quotes
so that the spaces won’t get mixed with argument separators. A quote character within the string
must be expressed with two successive quotes. It is perfectly valid to always enclose string
arguments within quotes.
Example:
The user wants do display text
My”sequence”
in the lower display line. To achieve this he/she
must send the command:
TXT ”My ””sequence”””
7.1.8 Recording Command Sequences
The command set includes commands for recording received commands to the nonvolatile
memory of the instrument. These stored command sequences can be run in the stand alone
mode of the instrument or with the
BGN
command. All commands are not recordable. This is
indicated separately for each command in the command set reference. Errors during recording
(non recordable command or invalid command argument(s)) abort the recording. For more

7.1.9 Entering Computer Control Mode
To enter computer control mode the computer must send the
VER
command to KingFisher96.
This is the only command the instrument acknowledges in stand alone mode. Even then the
instrument must be in idle state, meaning that it must not be running a sequence or waiting for an
acknowledge from the user.
