ABOUT THE DIG ADD-IT
™
AUTOMATIC PROPORTIONAL FERTILIZER INJECTOR
The 1-pint capacity, Add-It
™
Automatic Proportional Fertilizer Injector (AFI) is designed to feed your garden plants using any liquid fertilizer
(or premixed solution of water-soluble granular fertilizer) through a drip irrigation system, sprinkler system or garden hose. The Add-It
™
AFI requires a
minimum flow rate of 30 gallons per hour (½ GPM) or a minimum drip system with 30, 1 GPH drippers to operate.
Please Note: The Add-It
™
AFI 5016-HV comes with a ¾
″
backflow preventer that should be connected to the water source upstream of the Add-It
™
.
The Add-It
™
and the backflow preventer are designed to operate under a pressure of up to 60 PSI. The unit is not recommended to be installed under
constant line pressure.
INSTALLATION
A minimum pressure of 10 PSI and a minimum flow rate of .5 GPM (30 GPH) are required.
When installing the Add-It
™
AFI with ¾
″
backflow preventer, select one of the following two options.
Option 1: Drip system installation with hose thread
Start the installation at the water source by attaching the backflow
preventer (included with Add-It
™
# AFI 5016-HV) to your faucet, then
the Add-It
™
. If installed with a drip system, add a Y filter and then a
25 PSI preset pressure regulator. To automate the system, use one of
DIG’s battery or solar powered hose end timers (model B09D, EVO 100
or BOHE-BT) available online or in a store near you. Make sure to
install the timer to the faucet before the backflow device.
Please Note: Do not add fertilizer when the unit is under pressure.
Do not use a wrench to tighten the hose swivel connectors; these fittings should be tightened by hand only. The inlet/outlet of the Add-It
™
AFI should
be as horizontal as possible with the canister in a vertical position. Install the Add-It
™
only outdoors, and do not use hot water. It should not be
installed in direct sunlight; direct sunlight could adversely affect the liquid fertilizer nutrients and shorten the lifespan of the unit. The Add-It
™
can be
left outside, attached to the faucet (hose bib). It can also be moved from faucet to faucet to fertilize different plants and trees, areas or sections. If you
choose to leave the unit outside during the winter months and there is a possibility of freezing, it is highly recommended that the unit be left drained
and vented to prevent any damage.
FILLING THE ADD-IT
™
AUTOMATIC PROPORTIONAL FERTILIZER INJECTOR
1. To initially fill the Add-It
™
AFI, remove the top fill cap, insert the fill funnel (included) into the opening and pour in the liquid solution. Make sure
to fill the tank completely. Replace the top cap, and the Add-It
™
AFI is ready for operation.
2. Turn on the irrigation system at the faucet (hose bib). Consult the chart below to determine how many gallons of water will pass through the
irrigation system to empty the Add-It
™
AFI.
Add-It
™
Option 2: Add-It
™
to a hose and hose-end sprinkler/spray
Start the installation at the water source by attaching the backflow
preventer (included) to your faucet, followed by the Add-It
™
AFI.
Next, connect a garden hose to the male outlet of the Add-It
™
and
then install a hose-end sprinkler or hand sprayer to the end of the
garden hose.
