Exhaust System
An exhaust system is needed for the instrument to remove gases that
may contain ozone and other noxious substances. Two exhaust ports are
situated at the top of the instrument. See
Figure 3-1 .
The instrument exhaust ( 1 in Figure 3-1 ) is used to remove heat
generated by the electronics of the instrument.
The plasma gas exhaust ( 2 in Figure 3-1 ) is used to remove gases and
heat generated by the plasma.
The exhaust ports at the iCAP Qnova Series instruments have an outer
diameter of 60.3 mm for both plasma exhaust and heat exhaust. The
exhaust lines will be connected via flexible hoses with 63 mm ID and
can optionally be joined using a Y-piece and a flexible hose
(100 mm ID) supplied with the instrument. The plasma exhaust hose
should be equipped with a throttle valve.

In case of failure, the instrument exhaust is also used to remove
reactive gases, such as NH

and H
2

NOTICE
Flexible hoses must be connected to the instrument exhaust and the
plasma gas exhaust during operating of the instrument. The exhaust
lines can be joined using a Y-piece, see
Figure 3-2 . Thermo Fisher
Scientific will only install your system when an adequate exhaust
system is present and functioning. Exhaust gas venting must comply
with all local environmental codes.
NOTICE
Other peripheral devices might need additional exhaust connections.
