Cleaning the Ion Source Components

a. Disconnect the top and bottom prefilter connectors from the prefilter.
b. Remove the ion source from its housing.
c. Loosen the thumbscrew locking the prefilter brackets in place and slide the ion
volume holder to the left. Then remove the prefilter out the front of the instrument.
2. Clean the prefilter according to " Cleaning Non-Stainless Steel or Hybrid Components"
on page 36 .
3. Reinstall the prefilter.
a. Assemble the mounting bracket.
b. Clip the prefilter through the baffle wall.
c. Slide the lock bracket right and tighten the screw.
d. Reinstall the ion source and ensure it is aligned.
4. Reattach the vacuum manifold cover.
5. Reattach the front and top covers.
6. Restart the DSQ II.
Replacing the Ion Source Filament
The number of ions produced in the ion source is almost proportional to the filament
emission current. If you notice a decrease in ion production, the filament may be failing and
needs to be replaced. Also, if the measured emission current is substantially less than the set
emission current value, or if the measured emission current is decreasing, you may need to
replace the filament because it has failed or is failing.
To replace the ion source filament, you will need clean, lint- and powder-free gloves and a
lint-free cloth.
1. Cover the work area with a lint-free cloth.
2. Shut down and vent the DSQ II, as described in "Shutting Down the GC/MS System"
on page 18 .
WARNING - ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD. Before proceeding. unplug the DSQ II to
avoid an electrical shock.
