Shutting Down the GC/MS System
To shut down the GC/MS system:
1. Cool the TRACE GC Ultra. If you do not plan to change the column or perform
maintenance on the GC, you do not have to lower the injector temperature, but you do
need to lower the oven, injector, and transfer line temperatures to 30 °C.
2. Shut down the DSQ II.
a.
From the Instrument Setup window of
Xcalibur
, click the
Tune
button to open the
Tune window.
b. Select
Instrument | Shutdown
to begin the automatic shutdown process, which
includes:
• Displaying the
Xcalibur
Shut Down window
• Turning off the calibration and CI reagent gas
• Turning off the voltages to the ion source, quadrupole, and ion detector
• Turning off the ion source heater
• Turning off the turbomolecular pump
•
Xcalibur
counting down ten minutes for the pump to slow down
•
Xcalibur
waiting for the Ion Source to cool to < 175 °C to prevent oxidizing the
hot parts when they are exposed to air
c.
Wait for the transfer line to cool to < 175 °C.
3. Power off the DSQ II.
a.
When
Xcalibur
indicates that it is okay to turn off the main power to the DSQ II,
click
OK
.
