5 LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE
5.6 ADJUSTING TRANSMISSION CHAIN
This chain is provided with a tensioner sprocket
(5.6.A). To adjust undo the central screw, holding
the chain guard in place and remove the latter.
Slacken the nut holding the tensioner sprocket
spindle in place and slide the sprocket until the
chain is tightened. Do not overtighten. When the
necessary adjustment has been made securely re-
tighten the spindle nut. When adjusted correctly
the chain should be slightly slack in all positions.
5.7 BELT TENSIONING
If slip occurs on the two primary drive belts, these
may be tightened by adjusting the load on the
clutch pulley arms. To make an adjustment turn
the nuts (5.7.B) on the spring hook bolts (5.7.A) in
a clockwise direction. Further adjustment can be
made by moving the engine rearward on its
mounting plates.
The gearbox drive clutch cable has an adjuster
(5.7.C) fitted to the clutch end. This enables
adjustment to be made to ensure that the belt will
slip when the clutch is disengaged. When the
clutch lever is disengaged there should be
approximately 2.4mm (3/32in) free movement
between the outer cable and the tension pulley
arm.
5.8 REELCUTTER DRIVE BELT
This belt can be tensioned by slackening the pivot
bolts (5.8.A) holding the sideplates to the gearbox
and pivoting the unit forward to tighten the belt, or
rearwards, in the case of a new belt, to allow slip
when the clutch is disengaged.
