Installation Notes
• Install the brake caliper assembly by reversing the
order of removal.
• Assemble but do not tighten screws (5 and 12) until
position of caliper mounting plate (25) has been
adjusted. Tighten screws (15) to 75 ft-lb (102 N·m)
before adjusting the position of the caliper mounting
plate.
• Adjust the position of the caliper mounting plate (19)
to allow 0.031 in. (0.8 mm) gap between bottom of
brake caliper (10) and wheel hub (11). A cable tie can
be used as a gauge when setting the brake caliper to
wheel hub gap.
• Tighten screws (5 and 12) to 75 ft-lb (102 N·m).
• Adjust the brake pedal. (See “Brake Pedal

Removal and Installation
1.
Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
2.
Remove front wheel. (See “Front Wheels” on
page 9-18.)
3.
Remove brake caliper assembly. (See “Brake Caliper
Assembly” on page 9-20.)

Remove eight screws (1) and remove rotor (2) from
hub (3).
5.
Remove cotter pin (4).
6.
Loosen, but do not remove, castle nut (5).
7.
Loosen the wheel hub (3) from the axle shaft (6)
using a puller.
8.
Remove castle nut (4) and wheel hub (3) from axle
shaft (6).
9.
Remove key (7) from axle shaft (6).
10. Repeat steps 2 through 9 for other side of machine.
Installation Notes
•
• Clean the axle shaft, hub tapers, and brake rotor with
brake cleaner, or similar cleaning solvent, to remove
any oil or grease.
• Install the front wheel hubs and rotors by reversing
the order of removal.
• Tighten rotor screws (1) in an alternating pattern to
50 lb-in. (5.65 N·m).
• Apply anti-seize compound to key. Locate arrow on
end of key and assembly key to axle shaft with arrow
pointing out of the key slot. Key must be bottomed in
slot.
• Do not lubricate or apply anti-seize on the tapers;
hub must be installed dry.
• Tighten castle nut to 400 ft-lb (542 N·m).
• Install a new cotter pin (4) in castle nut (5) and axle
shaft (6).
