PRE-START INSTRUCTIONS

section 3

BEFORE STARTING:

1. READ SAFETY DE CALS

2. Check en gine and hy dro static trans mis sion oil

lev els.

3. Visu ally check for loose or miss ing parts or bolts.

4. Fill with clean fuel.

STARTING INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Turn the fuel valve to the ON po si tion.

2. Move the choke lever to the CLOSE po si tion.

NOTE: The choke may not be needed if the en -
gine is warm.

3. Move the throt tle lever slightly to the left.

4. Turn the en gine switch to the ON po si tion.

5. Pull the re coil starter grip lightly un til re sis tance

is felt, then pull briskly. NOTE: Do not al low the
starter grip to snap back against the en gine.

6. As the en gine warms up, gradu ally move the

choke lever to the OPEN po si tion.

7. Po si tion throt tle for the de sired en gine speed.

NEVER USE ETHER AS A STARTING AID, OR
SEVERE DAMAGE TO ENGINE MAY OCCUR. 

NEVER FILL FUEL TANK WITH ENGINE

RUNNING! 

SPECIFICATIONS FOR FUELS AND OILS

EN GINE OIL

Fill the crankcase with oil that meets API service
designation SF, SF/CC, or SF/CD. Do not mix brands 
or grades of oil. Recommended weight for general all 
temperature use is: 

SAE  10W-30 or SAE 10W-40

FUEL

Use clean, fresh, regular or unleaded fuel. Use of
unleaded fuel results in less maintenance.

 HY DRAU LIC OIL

Fill hydrostatic transmission reservoir to the safe
level with approved hydraulic oil. Use only Steiner
Trans--Hydraulic Oil or SAE 30 engine oil. Do not use 
automatic transmission fluid, multi-grade motor oil, or 
any other type of hydraulic oil.

USE ONLY STEINER TRANS--HYDRAULIC OIL OR
SAE 30 ENGINE OIL. THE USE OF ANY OTHER OIL
