6.4.3 Alignment
The initial alignment procedure described in this section assumes:
•
The detector and spectrograph have already been connected and turned on;
•
WinSpec has been launched and is running;
•
The detector and spectrograph have been identified/configured within WinSpec.
After initially aligning the optics, the alignment procedure can be repeated, if desired, to
fine-tune the alignment.
illustrates a properly aligned system.
Figure 6-10: Typical WinSpec Rotational Alignment View
Perform the following procedure to rotationally align the system:
NOTE:
When using an LN-cooled detector, fill the dewar after the
detector has been powered on.
1.
Mount a light source (e.g., a Princeton Instruments Hg and Ne/Ar Dual Switchable light
source,) in front of the entrance slit.
2.
From the application’s menu bar, open the
Spectrograph
menu, select
Move
, select the
grating to be moved, and configure it as follows:
•
If using a Mercury lamp, move it to 500 nm;
•
If using a broadband source, move it to 0.0 nm.
