Before Calling Service Personnel
Check the following guide for the possible cause of failure before contacting your dealer or warranty center.
Symptoms and Correction
Symptom
No power.
power is on, but DVD
player does not work.
No picture.
No sound.
Picture is poor.
DVD player does not
start playback.
Remote control does
not work properly.
Cause
• Power cord is disconnected
• Power cord is connected to switched out-
let on rear of receiver and receiver is
turned off.
• No disc is inserted.
• DVD requires set-up before playback.
• A/V receiver is not set on DVD function
(if connected to audio/video receiver)
• TV is not set to correct input to receive
DVD signal output
• TV does not recognize video cable type.
• Video cable is not connected securely.
• Receiver or TV power is off.
• A/V receiver is not set on DVD function
(if connected to audio/video receiver).
• Digital audio output of DVD is set incor-
rectly.
• Digital input on A/V receiver is set incor-
rectly.
• Audio cable is not connected securely.
• Receiver or TV power is off.
• Disc is dirty.
• No disc is inserted.
• An unplayable disc is inserted.
• Disc is upside down.
• Disc is not in tray guide.
• Disc is dirty.
• A menu stays on the screen
• Rating level is set
• Remote is not pointed at sensor on player.
• Remote control is too far from player.
• Obstacle is in path of remote signal.
• Batteries are dead.
Correction
• Plug the power cord into the wall outlet.
• Turn receiver on to provide power to DVD
player.
• Insert a disc. Confirm that the DVD or
audio CD indicator in the DVD display is
lit.
• Follow the menu set-up instructions and
make selections as required.
• Set A/V receiver to DVD function.
• Select the appropriate video input on the
TV(ie: TV, Video 1, Video 2) so the pic-
ture from DVD player appears on screen.
• If TV requires selection of cable type, set
on S-video or composite as required.
• Connect video cable into jacks securely.
• Turn on receiver and TV as applicable.
• Set A/V receiver to DVD function.
• Set the Digital Output of the DVD to the
desired setting.
• Set the digital input on receiver according
to the connection method used (analog,
coaxial, digital 1 or digital 2).
• Connect audio cable into jacks securely,
• Turn on receiver and TV as applicable.
• Clean the disc.
• Insert a disc. Confirm DVD or CD indica-
tor in display is lit.
• Insert a playable disc. Check the disc
type, color system and Regional code.
• Place disc with the playback side facing
down.
• Place the disc on the disc tray correctly
inside the guide.
• Clean the disc.
• Select set-up options as required, press
enter and then play.
• If menu remains on sereen, press the
SETUP button to turn off.
• Cancel the rating function or change the
rating level.
• Point the remote control directly at player.
• Operate the remote control within 20 feet.
• Remove obstacles between remote and
player.
• Replace batteries.
