PCI 5 DC IW, PCI 6DC IW, and QCI 6DC IW Installation
WARNING: T his procedure requires the use of an assistant, and the use of persona l protection equipment, such as safety g l asses and g l oves.
WARNING: T o avoid potentia l damage to your l oudspeaker, ensure that the power amp l ifi er is switched O FF prior to connecting or disconnecting any cab l es.
WARNING: Make sure that there are no power l ines, other cab l es, or p l umbing such as water, sewer, gas l ines in the chosen l ocation.
T he Back can I W is an optiona l back can for the PC I 5DC I W, PC I 6DC I W, and the QC I 6DC I W I n-Wa ll l oudspeakers. T he PMK pre-mount kits are a l so optiona l , and they
can be used with or without the Back can I W. I nsta ll ation detai l s are shown in the quick start guide that comes with these items.
T he procedure be l ow describes the insta ll ation of the PC I 6DC I W into a typica l 2" x 4" stud wa ll with 16" centers, with drywa ll /p l asterboard a l ready insta ll ed.
T he detai l s are the same for the PC I 5DC I W and the QC I 6DC I W I n-Wa ll l oudspeakers.
Cutout Templates
T he PC I 5DC I W, PC I 6DC I W and QC I 6DC I W l oudspeakers are provided with paper
cutout temp l ates as a guide to cutting the drywa ll .
Procedure
F o ll ow the procedure steps be l ow in the order in which they are presented. Read a ll
the instructions before starting.
1. Locate a suitab l e mounting position for the l oudspeaker, using a stud-fi nder.
WARN I NG: Make sure that there are no power l ines, other cab l es, or p l umbing
such as water, sewer, gas l ines in the chosen cutout l ocation. A l so make sure
that the l ocation is far enough from the wa ll studs so that a ll the c l amping
mechanisms can operate without interference.
2. Use the supp l ied cutout temp l ates ( F ig. 1) in the desired l ocation and carefu ll y
cut out a ho l e in the drywa ll using a suitab l e handtoo l . Remove any dust and
debris from the ho l e ( F ig. 2).
3. Run speaker wire to this l ocation ( F ig. 3). Leave enough s l ack to make the
connections when that time comes. T ie down the speaker cab l e to prevent
it moving and ratt l ing in operation. Make sure that the speaker cab l e does
not come into contact with nai l s or screws that might damage the e l ectrica l
insu l ation.
Installing the Frame into the Wall
With the drywa ll aperture cut, and the speaker wiring run to this l ocation, as
shown in the previous pages, the l oudspeaker frame can now be insta ll ed.
T he fo ll owing i ll ustrations show the PC I 6DC I W, but the detai l s are the same for
the PC I 5DC I W and the QC I 6DC I W l oudspeakers.
1. T he l oudspeaker baff l e assemb l y is shipped inside the frame, and it shou l d
be removed as fo ll ows: Undo the two screws l ess than ha l f a turn and then
ti l t the assemb l y out of the frame ( F ig. 4). Store it in a safe dry p l ace unti l it is
ready to be insta ll ed.
2. Adjust a ll of the mounting c l amps of the frame so they are in the stowed
postition ( F ig. 5 and 6). T hey are adjusted by pu ll ing on the spring- l oaded
meta l tab, and then moving the c l amps a l ong their mounting posts and
rotating them to the side. T his wi ll a ll ow the frame to fi t into the drywa ll
aperture.
Note: T he PC I 5DC I W frame has four mounting c l amps, and the PC I 6DC I W and
QC I 6DC I W have six as shown.
Wiring the Frame
WARN I NG: T o avoid potentia l damage to your l oudspeaker, ensure that the
amp l ifier is switched O FF prior to connecting or disconnecting any cab l es.
WARN I NG: Before switching the amp l ifier ON, doub l e check that a ll connections
are secure and that the po l arity is correct.
(Note that the speaker wire connections are made to the screw termina l s of the
frame.)
We recommend the use of insu l ated speaker wiring of between 12 and 18 AWG.
1. Carefu ll y pu ll out the speaker cab l es and strip off approximate l y 8 mm (1/4")
of the outer protective l ayer from each conductor.
2. Locate the screw-termina l connector on the back of the frame ( F ig. 7 ). T he
po l arity of the connections is marked as shown in the i ll ustration.
3. With the he l p of an assistant, ho l d the frame c l ose to the wa ll aperture.
4. T he positive wire from your amp l ifi er shou l d connect to the positive
termina l . T he negative wire from your amp l ifi er shou l d connect to negative
termina l . T ighten the screw termina l s to secure the wires.
5. Make sure that the speaker cab l e is secured to the frame, so it wi ll not move
and touch the speaker cone when it is insta ll ed.
