INSTALLATION
Note: There may be variances when installing this pump directly to protein skimmer as
there are many different protein skimmer manufactures. Consult with the manufacture
of the protein skimmer for exact installation instructions for there specific skimmer.
INSTALLATION OF PUMP
The pump comes out of the box and
is ready to run.
1. Connect directly to the intake of the
protein skimmer.
2. Position the air tubing silencer outside the water.
3. Plug the unit directly to a GFCI outlet.
4. Verify that there is water and air
entering the skimmer.
INSTALLATION OF THE DUAL INTAKE VENTURI (DIV) KIT TO
AN EXISTING RIO
®
PLUS WATER PUMP
1. Remove the main housing strainer from the pump.
Note: you do not need this part any more.
2. Remove the impeller well cover.
3. Remove the rubber shaft bushing inside the
impeller well cover.
4. Place the rubber shaft bushing back onto
the ceramic shaft.
5. Install new venturi impeller well cover.
6. Install discharge adapter to that the tapered
side is away from the pump.
7. Connect the both air intake elbows to the
venturi impeller well cover.
8. Connect the 2.5in air tubing to the air intake
elbow closest to the discharge adapter and
then to the nipple on the discharge adapter.
9. Connect the air tubing with silencer to the
other air intake elbow.
10. Directions for installation.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
PROBLEM: NO AIR
SOLUTION:
•
Verify that the air tubing with silencer is out of water.
•
The venturi needs to be cleaned: Remove the silencer and
place air tubing in a cup of warm water let the pump suck
water through pump.
•
If regular maintenance has not been preformed it may be
necessary to remove the pump and disassemble the venturi.
When doing so verify that all holes are clear. It may be
necessary to soak parts in a vinegar water solution
(3 parts water to 1 part vinegar.)
•
Impeller and impeller well cover needs to
be cleaned.
•
The pump is positioned to deep in the water column, do not
place the pump deeper than 6in from the water level
MAINTENANCE
Routine weekly maintenance is the most importance
to ensure a well operating pump.
1. Unplug all electrical aquarium devices prior to maintenance of the aquarium or
aquarium component.
2. Unplug the pump from the GFCI outlet.
3. Remove pump from the protein skimmer.
4. Remove all tubing, elbow, impeller well cover, impeller and ceramic shaft.
5. Clean the impeller, shaft, impeller well cover and air intake elbows with a vinegar water
solution (1 part vinegar and 1 part water). Let it soak for a minimum of 15 minutes. Verify
that the impeller spins freely on the shaft and all air intake holes are free of debris. In
some cases, it may take additional soaking to break up excess calcium build-up.
6. Reassemble impeller verify that all bushing are properly installed.
7. Reassemble pump.
