According to AIM standards, a UPC with supplemental bar code is transmitted in the
following format:
]E0 (UPC chars) (terminator) ]E2 (supplemental) (terminator)
In the SE-923, however, the format is changed to:
]E0 (UPC chars) ]E2 (supplemental)
Therefore, a UPC with two supplemental characters, 01234567890510, is transmitted to the
host as a 21-character string,
]E0 0012345678905 ]E1 10.
Setting Code Lengths Via Serial Commands
There are two lengths (L1 and L2) for each variable length code type. See the individual code
types in
Chapter 5 for the L1 and L2 parameter numbers.
Depending on the selected option, the scanner will decode:
• One discrete length bar code
• Two discrete length bar codes
UPC/EAN
0 Standard packet in full EAN country code format, which
is 13 digits for UPC-A and UPC-E (not including
supplemental data).
1 Two digit supplement data only.
2 Five digit supplement data only.
4 EAN-8 data packet.
Example: A UPC-A bar code 012345678905 is transmitted as
]E0 0012345678905
Bookland EAN
0 No options specified at this time. Always transmit 0.
Example: A Bookland EAN bar code 123456789X is transmitted as
]X0 123456789X
