3. Maintenance

3.1 General

Cleaning at regular intervals is necessary to ensure that the
humidifier will operate as intended without malfunctioning.
The interval between cleaning is largely conditional on the
evaporation rate, dust content in the air, water quality and
whether once-through or circulated water is used.
The humidifier should be inspected every third month and
should be cleaned every six months.

3.2 Service under special conditions

Drain  and  clean  the  water  tray  whenever  the  system  is
shut  down  for  an  extended  period,  such  as  during  long
weekends.
If the humidifier is to be out of service for some time, the
humidifier fills should be removed and stored where they
will not sustain damage.
If there is a high concentration of calcium and bicarbonate in
the water or if the dust concentration in the air is high, inspect
the humidifier more often. If circulated water is used, the
bleed-off flow can be increased (see page 2). The frequency
of inspection and the bleed-off rate are conditional on the
installation and should be based on experience.

3.3 When servicing, check the following:

1  The  humidifying  surface  should  be  equally  damp  on

both sides. If they are not, clean the water system and

the spray pipes above the humidifier cassettes.

2  Water should be bled-off through the drain valve – if not,

clean the valve and refit it back in its original position. If

softened water is used, very little bleed-off will occur and

the valve may easily become clogged.

3  The humidifier cassettes and water tray should be clean

– if not, clean them.

4  The water trap should be filled with water.
5  There should not be any salt deposits on the front or

back side of the humidifier – if there are, increase the

water bleed-off by 25%.

3.4 Measures prior to major maintenance

Switch off the water pump (circulated water) or turn off the

water supply (once-through water) and let the fans run for

about 30 min. to allow the humidifier to dry. The humidifier

cassettes are relatively fragile when they are wet and should

be handled with care.
