Warning!
We do not recommend that the CPU or the heat sink be
removed. However, if you do need to uninstall the heat sink, please
follow the instructions below to prevent damage to the CPU or the
CPU socket.
!
Installing the Heat Sink
1. Do not apply any thermal grease
to the heat sink or the CPU die; the
required amount has already been
applied.
2. Place the heat sink on top of the CPU
so that the four mounting holes are
aligned with those on the (preinstalled)
heat sink retention mechanism.
3. Screw in two diagonal screws (i.e.
the #1 and the #2 screws) until just
snug. Do not fully tighten the screws
or you may damage the CPU.)
4. Add the two remaining screws then
fi nish the installation by fully tightening
all four screws.
Removing the Heat Sink
Unscrew and remove the heat sink screws from the serverboard in the se-
quence as show in the picture above.
Hold the heat sink and gently wriggle the heat sink to loosen it from the CPU.
(Do not use excessive force when wriggling the heat sink!!)
Once the heat sink is loose, remove it from the CPU.
Clean the surface of the CPU and the heat sink to get rid of the old thermal
grease. Reapply the proper amount of thermal grease on the surface before
you re-install the heat sink.
