2.4 Chassis Components
This section provides instructions on installing and replacing system components. To assure
compatibility, only use components that match the specifications or part numbers given.
Storage Drives
The system supports up to four 3.5" SATA3 and four 2.5" drives in two separate drive cages.
Note:
Enterprise level hard disk drives are recommended for use in Supermicro servers. For
compatible storage drives, see the H12SSL-i motherboard web page

3.5" Drive Cage
The removable drive cage is accessed by removing the left chassis cover. These drives are
not hot-swap, power must be removed from the system before removing or installing drives.
The drive cage can house up to four drives of either 3.5" or 2.5" size.
Removing the Drive Cage
Begin by powering down the system and removing the left cover as previously described.

Press the release tab on the top left of the drive cage as shown in the figure below.
2. Rotate the hard disk drive cage outward.
