Product description
STULZ UltraSonic -System for duct humidification ENS 14 A - 18 A-
4.9.
Water treatment
Adiabatic humidifying systems produce cold mist. To ensure that the transducers continue functioning
throughout the unit's service life, the ultrasonic humidifier must be supplied with demineralized drinking
water. This can be achieved in the field by installing a reverse osmosis system upstream, possibly in
combination with a downstream ion exchanger.
The results of water treatment, as well as other parameters, depend to a large extent on the quality of
the available drinking water. If its hardness (°dH) is high, the additional installation of upstream water
softening equipment is recommended.
Furthermore, if the mineral content of the water is too high for the planned application, this may lead to
the formation of deposits in the humidified room. If this ultrasonic system is used in an application with no
or only a minimal supply of outside air (e.g. equipment rooms), it may happen that minerals/salts enter the
room via the air humidifying system and are deposited on surfaces. To prevent this, we urgently recom
-
mend the installation of downstream demineralizing equipment with conductivity monitor (e.g. STULZ ion
exchanger SD 2800 in combination with the STULZ conductivity measuring kit).
The degree of demineralization is determined by the conductivity of the water, measured in μS/cm.
We distinguish between two different applications:
Comfort applications:
• Offices, doctors' surgeries, production plants, storage facilities
• Recommended water quality: ~ 20 μS/cm
• Recommended water treatment using reverse osmosis, with downstream ion exchanger if necessary.
Equipment room applications:
• Equipment rooms, server rooms, laboratories, applications with large circulating airflows with a low
proportion of fresh air (e.g. 80/20)
• Recommended water quality: < 5 μS/cm
• Recommended water treatment using reverse osmosis, downstream ion exchanger essential.
CAUTION
Demineralized drinking water.
The ultrasonic humidifier is operated with demineralized drinking water, to ensure that the transducers
retain their function throughout the unit's service life. Furthermore, if the mineral content of the water is
too high for the planned application, this may lead to the formation of deposits in the humidified room.
●
Check the mineral content and conductivity of the drinking water to prevent damage to property.
●
Replenish ion exchangers regularly and in good time.
IMPORTANT
Reverse osmosis removes the salt content of the drinking water. In this process, the water is forced
through a semipermeable membrane, which selectively separates out dissolved solids. This enables the
removal of bacteria, viruses, salts and proteins, for example. The heart of a reverse osmosis system is a
high-performance membrane, which removes chalk, sediment, particles and other undesirable substanc
-
es from tap water. An integrated pressure pump can ensure a good membrane performance and provide
a prefilter stage for low-cost operation and a long service life.
