Discotom-50
Instruction Manual
As previously mentioned in the information box on rotational
speed, only bakelite-bonded cut-off wheels can be optimised by
altering the rotational speed.
Using CBN or Diamond
Cut-off wheels
When CBN or diamonds are used as an abrasive, the rotational
speed must be fixed. Compared to the SiC and Al

wheels, CBN
wheels should run at a significantly higher speed, whereas
diamond wheels perform best at a lower speed.
Optimal wheel speed is 18 - 24 m/sec.
Set the rotational speed to n rpm, if possible and within safety
limits.
n = (420,000 / D) rpm.
D = the diameter of the cut-off wheel in mm.
Wheel Speed for Diamond Cut-
off Wheels
Optimal wheel speed is 25 - 35 m/sec.
Set the rotational speed to n rpm, if possible and within safety
limits.
n =(600,000 / D) rpm.
D = the diameter of the cut-off wheel in mm
Wheel Speed for CBN Cut-off
Wheels
The feed speed may be adjusted within a limited range. Note that
the feed speed depends on placement of the wheel as well as
sample placement and size.
