Personnel qualifications
Only qualified and authorised personnel are
allowed to perform maintenance work. Regu-
lar safety checks and checks after unusual in-
cidents must be performed by a competent
person. The competent person must conduct
their evaluation and assessment from a safety
standpoint, unaffected by operational and eco-
nomic conditions. The competent person must
have sufficient knowledge and experience to
be able to assess the condition of a truck and
the effectiveness of the protective devices in
accordance with technical conventions and
the principles for testing trucks.
Maintenance work without special quali-
fications
Simple maintenance work, such as checking
the hydraulic oil level, may be carried out by
untrained personnel. A qualification such as
those held by a competent person is not re-
quired to carry out this work. The required
tasks are described in the chapter entitled
"Remaining ready for operation".
Preliminary maintenance op-
erations
Carry out the following steps before perform-
ing maintenance operations:
●
Park the truck in an area where it does not
obstruct other trucks.
●
Park the truck on a flat surface and secure
it with wheel chocks behind the wheels to
prevent it from rolling away unintentionally.
●
Seal off the area where you are performing
the maintenance.
●
Lower the fork arms to the ground.
●
Apply the parking brake.
●
Turn off the forklift truck, and remove the ig-
nition and stop key.
