17 Maintenance

► Pull the pin (1) up and hold it there.
► Insert flexible drive tube (2) with flexible shaft (5) in the 

powerhead and release the pin (1).

► Move the flexible drive tube (2) back and forth until the pin 

(1) engages.

The pin (1) secures the flexible drive tube (2) to the 

powerhead.

► Secure throttle cable (7) to flexible drive tube (2) with two 

cable ties (3), making sure it is not wrapped around the 

drive tube (2).

17.3 Lubricating the Gearbox

► Remove the screw plug (2).
► If no grease can be seen on the end of the screw plug (2):

► Apply tube of STIHL gear grease (1) to the filler hole.
► Pump 5 g of STIHL gear grease into the gear housing.
► Refit and tighten down the screw plug (2) firmly.
► Start the engine and run it for 1 minute at full throttle.

STIHL gear grease is distributed evenly.

17.4 Adjusting the Throttle Cable

► Start the engine.

► Lay the flexible drive tube on the ground in a 90° curve.

► Pull the trigger (1) without depressing the lockout lever 

(2).

► If the engine accelerates: Hold the trigger (1) depressed 

and turn screw (3) counterclockwise until there is no 

further noticeable drop in engine speed.

The throttle cable was overtensioned.

► Pull the trigger (1) and hold it there without depressing the 

lockout lever (2).

► Turn screw (3) clockwise until the engine accelerates.
