3.1 Warnings and Instructions

WARNING

■ To reduce the risk of eye injury, always wear goggles that

are impact-rated and marked as complying with CSA Z94.

Wearers of prescription (Rx) eyewear should wear goggles

that can be worn over prescription lenses without disrupting

either the prescription eyewear or the proper fit of the

goggles.

■ Keep bystanders, especially children, and animals out of

the work area. Never leave the pressure washer unattended

while running.

■ Never allow minors to operate the pressure washer or rotary

surface cleaner.

■ Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all

times. Special care must be taken in slippery conditions.

Never operate the rotary surface cleaner while standing on

a ladder or other insecure support.

■ To reduce the risk of severe laceration and other personal

injury from fluid injection, shut off the pressure washer,

relieve system pressure and lock the spray gun trigger

before changing any spray nozzle or accessory, including

the rotary surface cleaner.

■ To reduce the risk of laceration and injection of fluids below

the skin, never direct spray jet towards self, other persons

or animals. Keep hands, feet and other parts of your body

clear of the spray nozzles during operation. Never reach

under the spray cover when the pressure washer is on. If an

accident does occur and the spray appears to have

penetrated the skin, seek emergency medical care. Do not

treat as a simple cut.

■ The powerful water jet from the rotary surface cleaner

causes reactive forces in a direction opposite to the

direction of spray (kickback). Hold the spray gun and lance

firmly while you are working to reduce the risk of personal

injury from loss of control.

■ To help control the powerful spray jet, always work with

enough downward pressure to keep the rotary cleaner close

to the ground. Keep the spray nozzles pointed downward at

the surface being cleaned.

■ Never operate your rotary surface cleaner if it is modified,

damaged, improperly adjusted or maintained, or not

completely and securely assembled. Before starting work,

ensure that hoses, fittings and couplings are properly

installed and secure and that all components are in good

working order. Never exceed the maximum operating

pressure or temperature.

■ If you experience unusual vibration in the rotary surface

cleaner during operation, shut off the pressure washer

immediately and have the accessory inspected by an

authorized STIHL servicing dealer before further use.

■ To reduce the risk of loss of control and personal injury,

never operate the pressure washer with the spray gun

trigger wired in the open position. Never modify the

pressure washer controls or the rotary surface cleaner in

any way.

■ STIHL pressure washers and the rotary surface cleaner are

designed for use with water alone or with a detergent

specifically designed and approved for use with pressure

washers. Follow the detergent manufacturer's instructions

for proper preparation and dilution, as well as safe use and

disposal.

■ To reduce the risk of fire/explosion resulting in serious injury

or property damage, never spray flammable liquids. Never

spray fluids that contain solvents or undiluted acids (e.g.,

gasoline, heating oil, paint thinner or acetone). The spray is

highly combustible, explosive and poisonous.

NOTICE

To reduce the risk of property damage, begin work on a lower

pressure setting and increase pressure as necessary. Keep

the rotary surface cleaner in motion during work and take care

not to damage the surface being cleaned.

The rotary surface cleaner is designed to clean flat exterior

surfaces, including driveways and sidewalks. It is designed for

use only with a cold water pressure washer.

Illustration 2
► Shut off the pressure washer and squeeze the spray gun

trigger to relieve system pressure.

► Lock the spray gun trigger.
► Pull back the coupling sleeve (1) on the spray lance as far

as it will go and hold it there.

► Push the spray lance onto the rotary surface cleaner

coupling (2) and push the coupling sleeve forward as far as

it will go (3).

► Pull the spray lance and confirm that it is attached securely.

Illustration 3
Keep the rotary surface cleaner in motion whenever the spray

gun trigger is activated.
► Walk behind the rotary surface cleaner while cleaning.
► Slow down if cleaning is uneven or if spraying results in

striped surfaces.

If small stones or debris accumulate under the spray cover, tip

the unit away from the operator, bystanders, animals and all

other objects up to 45°. Smaller stones and foreign material

should be expelled from the spray cover.

7.1 Maintenance and Care

Protect the unit from frost and freezing conditions. Drain water

from the rotary surface cleaner in cold temperatures.
Ensure that bristles are not bent or deformed during storage.

7.2 Cleaning the Spray Nozzles

Nozzle orifices are extremely small and may become clogged

with foreign material, such as dirt. Clean the nozzles

immediately if they become partially clogged or the spray

pattern may becomes distorted.
► Shut off the pressure washer and squeeze the spray gun

trigger to relieve system pressure.

► Lock the spray gun trigger.
► Disconnect the spray lance from the rotary surface cleaner.
► Use a 9/16” wrench to remove the nozzles.
► Flush the coupling with water to loosen particles and

remove any obstructions from the nozzles (Illustration 4).

► Re-attach the nozzles to the rotor using thread seal

(plumber's tape) to prevent leaks (Illustration 5).

► Align the slots of the nozzles with the rotor (Illustration 6).
► Test the function of the rotary surface cleaner, keeping

hands and feet and other parts of your body away from the

water jets.

7.3 Replacing the Rotor

► Use a 9/16” wrench to block the rotor head (Illustration 7).
► Turn the rotor counterclockwise and remove it from the rotor

head.

► Mount the new rotor to the rotor head. Use thread seal

(plumber's tape) to prevent leaks

(Illustration

8

).

► Ensure that the rotor is functioning properly before starting

work.

– Minimum Water throughput: 2.3 GPM
– Maximum Pressure: 4200 PSI
– Optimum Performance: 2100 PSI to 3800 PSI
– Maximum Water temperature: 125 °F (52 °C)

Never exceed the maximum operating pressure or

temperature.

Observe all federal, state and local disposal rules and

regulations.
STIHL products must not be thrown in the household trash or

disposed of except as outlined in these instructions. Take the

product, accessories and packaging to an approved disposal

site for environmentally friendly recycling.
Contact your STIHL servicing dealer for the latest information

2 Introduction

Because the rotary surface cleaner sprays a

powerful, rotating water jet, special safety

precautions must be observed to reduce the risk of

personal injury.

It is important that the operator read, fully

understand and observe the safety precautions

and warnings in these instructions and the

instruction manual for the pressure washer. Read

both documents before use and periodically

thereafter. Careless or improper use may cause

serious or fatal injury. Never loan your rotary

surface cleaner without the instructions.
