Lock-out / Tag-out
Lock-out/Tag-out procedures are safety measures, designed to prevent application of
power (energy) to the machine while it is being serviced.
The established procedures for the application of energy control (the lock-out or tag-
out procedures) shall cover the following elements and actions and shall be done in
the next mentioned sequence.

Lock-out / Tag-out procedure
1.
Notification. Notify all affected employees that service or maintenance is required
on the machine and that the machine must be shut down and locked out.
2.
Preparation for shutdown. The machine may only be turned off by an authorized
employee. Before turning it off, the employee must know:
• The type and magnitude of the energy
• The hazards of the energy to be controlled
• The method or means to control the energy
