BAR CODE TYPES
Code 128
Compact yet capable of encoding all 128 alphanumeric characters of the ASCII
code. It is the most widely used in logistics and parcel.
Code 39
Also called code 3 of 9, can encode 43 characters (uppercase A - Z, numbers
and some symbols). Although it requires more space to encode data that the 128
code, is widely used since it can be decoded by almost any reader.
Interspersed 2 of 5
Exclusively numeric, it is used to tag 35 mm fi lms and packages containing
products marked with another code.
Codebar
Mainly used in libraries, it can be read even if it has been printed on a dot matrix
printer. You can include numeric characters, characters of 6 scores (- $: /. +) and
spaces, as well as 4 characters of home/high A, B, C and D.
UPC (Universal product code)
Used bay retailer in North America and other English-speaking countries is the
most commonly used in trade. It consists of 12 digits.
